Lecturer In Journalism at University of Gloucestershire

October 13, 2025

Job Description

1 FTE, permanent position.

We don’t just study journalism at the University of Gloucestershire: we DO it.

Our teaching is intensely practical, with real world partnerships and projects.

We have an unbeatable record on getting our students into fulfilling jobs, and our links with industry are also second to none. We’re proud to have created an ethos which both stretches and supports our students, challenging them to be the best possible versions of themselves in line with the university’s key pillars of careers, connections and community.

We’re looking for an experienced multi-platform journalist to join us and teach across a range of our courses to ensure our graduates continue to be at the front of the queue when it comes to securing work in an ever-changing industry.

You will possess a future-focused approach and comprehensive understanding of contemporary industry practice, a good knowledge of sustainable working practices, as well as a full understanding of the requirements of the industry.

We’re looking for people able to teach:

  • The basics of journalism: how to find stories, how to interview people, how to develop confidence and contacts
  • News writing and multimedia content creation
  • Media law and regulation

Higher Education teaching experience is a bonus, but not essential.

Our team is made up of people with industry expertise, bags of enthusiasm and ideas, a dedication to giving students the best possible experience and a willingness to keep on learning. If you’ve got those qualities too – particularly if you have experience of developing people, training, or teaching, we’d love to hear from you.

If you would like to have an informal conversation about the position, please contact Neil Leighton nleighton@glos.ac.uk
