The University of Surrey, School of Veterinary Medicine is the only school in the UK with a distributed teaching model. It aims to inspire and educate veterinary professionals who will advance veterinary medicine to meet the needs of a changing world. We embrace the traditional values of professionalism, scientific curiosity, and clinical excellence, while developing graduates with broad horizons. Our research aims to advance knowledge in all aspects of veterinary medicine and education.
We have a position available for a RCVS-registered veterinary surgeon (MRCVS) with an enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge and experience with veterinary undergraduates. The focus of this role is three-fold: to provide internal education to students in their first four years of undergraduate education, to partner with the profession, supporting students on external placements in their final year and to undertake clinical and pedagogical research in their area of expertise.
The role will be offered on a part-time basis (28.8 hours per week) to cover maternity leave in the team until April 2025.
About you
We are looking for someone with an intuitive passion for teaching. Prior academic experience is not a prerequisite, but some teaching experience is beneficial. Due to the nature of the role and the geographical locale of our partner practices, this post would ideally suit someone based in the South East of England, however UK travel outside this area may be required. There would be a requirement to be onsite in Guildford each week to teach, and the remaining time would be split between home working and travel to our partner practices (travel cost will be reimbursed when you are visiting partner practices).
The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of first opinion practice across either equine or companion animal. Applications from mixed practitioners are encouraged.
How we can offer
In return for your hard work we offer a generous pension, CPD budget, opportunities to maintain clinical skills and relocation assistance. There is also access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes and supportive family friendly benefits including our Bright Horizons on-site workplace nursery, which has an excellent 91% parent satisfaction score.
Further Information
To apply please submit a CV and a cover letter.

The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all. We value everyone in our community and are seeking to increase the diversity. Therefore, we particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.
Induction Commitment
We wish to create the conditions for success for our new starters in the Vet School, by facilitating their growth and development within our institution. To achieve this, we have established the following guiding principle for all new staff members who are on a local/Guildford contract, effective for all new starters.
All new staff, whether full-time or part-time, are expected to be physically present on campus for a minimum of four days each week during their initial four to six months of employment. The duration will vary depending on individual with minimum duration being 4 months and maximum duration being 6 months. This requirement is adjusted on a pro-rata basis for part-time staff members. For those on remote contract, a separate programme of on-campus commitment is being developed.
