Lecturer Visual Comms Information and Data Design at University Of The Arts London

Job Description

Hybrid – LCC Elephant and Castle/Home

Permanent

Part time – 22.2 hours per week

Are you passionate about visual communication, data, and creative education? Join us at LCC to inspire the next generation of critical and socially aware data designers.

We are seeking a Lecturer in Visual Communication, Information and Data Design to join our small, supportive team on the MA Design for Data Visualisation at London College of Communication.

You will play a key role in delivering an innovative, practice-led course where students use graphic design and visual communication design-led approaches to research, interpret, critique and visualise data using a wide range of methods, tools and media. Our course encourages students to explore the social and ethical implications of working with data and to develop highly informed and critical positions within this evolving field.

You will work closely with the course leader and wider team to develop curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in new and critical directions. As data visualisation is an interdisciplinary and emergent field, we welcome applications from candidates with academic and/or professional expertise across fields including graphic design, visual communication, information design, UX, interaction design or data storytelling.

This is primarily a teaching and learning role with a focus on inclusive, research-informed and socially engaged approaches.

About you

You will have experience of teaching and learning and assessment within Higher Education, including at the postgraduate level, and bring strong expertise in visual communication, data design or related areas. You should have an ability to design inclusive and innovative learning and assessment strategies and an interest in socially engaged, critical practices.

You will be able to work collaboratively and engage with a diverse student cohort, supporting students in developing research-led and critically reflexive approaches to practice. You will also have a postgraduate qualification (or equivalent professional experience) in a relevant subject area.

You will be supported to achieve a relevant teaching qualification if you do not already have one. We particularly welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who can bring new perspectives and experiences to our community.
