Job description: Logistics Operator (011jc) – Milton Keynes – up to £30k + Benefits

Ex-Mil Recruitment has been asked by one of the world’s Largest International Logistics providers to assist them in sourcing a Logistics Operator for one of their key Security Cleared clients based in the Milton Keynes area.

As part of the contract team, reporting to the Ops Manager, and you be responsible for the delivery of customer service excellence in line with contractual requirements, such as arranging both import and export shipments in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, whilst achieving the required service levels as well as dealing with all shipping documentation as per the client’s Business Process Manual.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Organising diplomatic consignments, ensuring strict compliance all required paperwork, including customs processes, invoicing and all other essential air, courier, road, and ocean Import/export related documentation.
  • Review all customer bookings and clearance instructions, ensuring these are understood and followed.
  • Provide all relevant service providers with the required information for successful service delivery in line with client’s contracted SLA’s.
  • Communicate with all operations to ensure the accuracy of consignment delivery.
  • Processing of diplomatic shipment using the company and third-party operating systems.
  • Manage in transit milestones for all diplomatic shipments by obtaining the latest status information, updating systems and monitor accordingly in line with client’s SLA’s through to delivery.
  • In the event of a service failure identify the root cause and take appropriate action to address ensuring the customer is kept fully informed.
  • Deliver accurate costs within CRM thus alleviating potential revenue variances. Raising sales invoices accurately within agreed KPI timescales.
  • Comply with all relevant work and safety legislation, standards and organisational procedures and UK security regulations.
  • Experience within the airfreight, Sea Freight, courier, and road products including Incoterms.
  • Research and provide competitive quotations, providing “value for money” services to the client.
  • Constantly consider initiatives which will enhance the customer experience and service excellence for the client.
  • Coordination with warehouse and transport teams to ensure error free handling of diplomatic material in line with contracted SLA’s.
  • Supporting accompanied diplomatic shipments out of hours.
  • Control input and handling of customer complaints, issues, quality none compliance and operational irregularities with follow up and query resolution through the “Customer Relationship Management” (CRM) tools.
  • Ensuring that service delivery is maintained to a high standard with complaints kept to a minimum.
  • Regular communication with the overseas branches ensuring that all issues are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with the airlines and the integrators regarding any service issues, ensuring that issues are resolved within a minimum timescale.

To be eligible for this role you will need the following knowledge, skills and experience:
Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 Including Maths and English.
  • Up to 3 years’ experience in freight Forwarding industry or logistics.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Hard working diligent, self-motivated. Excellent attention to detail

Desirable

  • Level CO Security and Dangerous goods trained, however training will be given for the right individual.
  • Knowledge of International Trading terms and international standards for freight carriage, insurance, and costs.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
  • Work in a consistent methodical manner when required.
  • Competent in IT skills, word, excel and customs system.

Due to the nature of this role, you will need to be able to pass and hold Home Office SC Clearance, as you will need this to work on the client site, and also having a fully checkable 5-year work history as this is part of the industry standard.

The ideal candidate would be someone coming from a logistics/freight forwarding background, who has experience of moving good across the globe.

This role is based on the client’s site Mon – Fri on a 35 hr week, but due to the fact that security clearances may take up to 4 months, they will imbed you with one of their teams locally, and also expect you to travel to their HQ in Heathrow once or twice per month as well, but once clearance comes though, you will be based at the client site.
