External Relations is the division responsible for delivering the University of Birmingham to the world and prides itself on seizing opportunities that will enhance the profile and reputation of the University. The Marketing Manager post manages the marketing of undergraduate recruitment campaigns for UK and international students, as part of the Undergraduate Recruitment and Marketing team, including the organisation, management and delivery of cross-channel institution-wide activities. This position works with the Head of Undergraduate Recruitment and Marketing and closely with colleagues from across External Relations and the wider University to deliver on undergraduate recruitment targets. The successful candidate should have extensive experience in a marketing or communications role, with strong copywriting skills and experience running projects across digital and traditional channels. The role requires a demonstrable background in successfully building relationships and communicating with colleagues at all levels, including managing and leading teams in the delivery of campaigns.

This is an exciting role in a busy, innovative and fast-paced team. Reporting to the Head of Undergraduate Recruitment and Marketing, the post holder will also have line management responsibility. The successful candidate should have extensive experience in a marketing or communications role, particularly understanding web content development and user experience, CRM and other digital channels, and with a demonstrable background in successfully building relationships and communicating with colleagues at all levels.

They should be a creative thinker with excellent attention to detail, and a quick learner who is happy to work independently. They should thrive on the opportunity to produce innovative solutions to any challenges facing the Student Recruitment and Marketing team. The Marketing Manager will work collaboratively across the University and the successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills. They will be confident in presenting ideas and plans successfully to the wider University community.

Person Specification

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience in a related field
  • Substantial experience of working in a marketing environment, preferably in a large, complex organisation
  • An interest in (or experience of) working in an education marketing environment
