The Materials Development Engineer is responsible for the following duties:
Job Duties:
- Developing and implementing capability enhancement strategies for materials in the aerospace and aviation industry
- Conducting research and analysis to identify materials development opportunities and improvements
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define material specifications and requirements
- Designing and executing experiments to evaluate and validate material performance
- Creating and maintaining documentation related to material development processes and procedures
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Providing technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders on material-related matters
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance material development processes
- Monitoring and evaluating emerging material technologies and trends
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in materials development, preferably in the aerospace and aviation industry
- Strong knowledge of materials testing and characterisation techniques
- Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for materials analysis
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials development, preferably in the aerospace and aviation industry
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of materials science principles and concepts
- Familiarity with material selection and evaluation methods
- Understanding of industry standards and regulations related to materials in aerospace and aviation
- Proficiency in using materials testing and characterisation equipment
- Ability to interpret and analyse material performance data
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with composite materials development
- Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes
- Understanding of supply chain management in the aerospace industry
Working Conditions:
- This position is based in North West England, Lancashire, Preston
- Work is primarily conducted in an office and laboratory environment
- May require occasional travel to supplier or customer sites
- Full-time hours are expected for this contract role
Expected salary: £70 – 31.27 per hour
