The Materials Development Engineer is responsible for the following duties:

Job Duties:

  • Developing and implementing capability enhancement strategies for materials in the aerospace and aviation industry
  • Conducting research and analysis to identify materials development opportunities and improvements
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define material specifications and requirements
  • Designing and executing experiments to evaluate and validate material performance
  • Creating and maintaining documentation related to material development processes and procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Providing technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders on material-related matters
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance material development processes
  • Monitoring and evaluating emerging material technologies and trends

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in materials development, preferably in the aerospace and aviation industry
  • Strong knowledge of materials testing and characterisation techniques
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for materials analysis
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials development, preferably in the aerospace and aviation industry

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of materials science principles and concepts
  • Familiarity with material selection and evaluation methods
  • Understanding of industry standards and regulations related to materials in aerospace and aviation
  • Proficiency in using materials testing and characterisation equipment
  • Ability to interpret and analyse material performance data
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with composite materials development
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of supply chain management in the aerospace industry

Working Conditions:

  • This position is based in North West England, Lancashire, Preston
  • Work is primarily conducted in an office and laboratory environment
  • May require occasional travel to supplier or customer sites
  • Full-time hours are expected for this contract role

Expected salary: £70 – 31.27 per hour
