Matron (Research and Innovation) at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

January 20, 2024

Job Description

Contract: Full time – 37.5 hours per week

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust are excited to announce that we are looking for a motivated individual to join our research nursing team as a Research & Innovation Matron, due to the retirement of the current postholder. Working alongside the team based in the NIHR Clinical Research Facility, this is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to continue to develop their expertise and leadership in clinical research in this exciting area of medicine.

GOSH is an internationally recognised symbol of excellence in paediatric medical research, and the leading children’s medical research centre in Europe. Funded by the NIHR GOSH Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) we are at the forefront of discovery into the basis of rare childhood diseases, the development of novel diagnostics and imaging techniques, and new treatments including pharmacological, stem cell and genetic therapies. A number of entirely novel, experimental therapies are being trialled in children with rare diseases including cancer, muscular dystrophies, kidney disease and metabolic diseases.

Now, more than ever, it is an especially exciting time to join our team. From early 2024, we will be moving from our current NIHR Clinical Research Facility, into a brand-new, purpose-built CRF. This state-of-the-art facility will allow us to provide children and their families with improved facilities and a more comfortable environment for them, supporting their participation in research, as well as expand our capacity and support for experimental studies which recruit and assess children in other areas of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

As post-holder, you will be part of the team responsible for this cutting-edge research facility, as well as providing a high-quality clinical environment, in which children and young people can take part in research programmes safely and effectively, according to robust and ethically approved protocols. You will be expected to work closely with academics and clinicians who are world leaders in their fields and will be exposed to an exciting array of cutting-edge projects.

The Matron will work collaboratively with the Head of Nursing & Patient Experience to lead the speciality senior research nursing teams and CRF sister, ensuring that robust systems of governance and performance management are in place to deliver high quality child and family centred research services. The post-holder will work collaboratively to deliver the clinical research service alongside the Advanced Clinical Practice Research Nursing team. The post holder will need to have a clear understanding of the research process and be confident in leading on all aspects of early phase and IMP clinical research as well as being responsible for the day-to-day operational management of clinical research nursing service.

This is an excellent opportunity for highly motivated and experienced paediatric research nurse. You must have effective organizational skills and be looking for a new and exciting challenge. You should demonstrate the ability to manage your own workload and to work as part of a team. Previous early phase and IMP research experience is essential for the post along with excellent operational leadership and significant line management experience.
