Job description: We are excited to announce a new opportunity within IUC to join us as a Core Health Advisor (CHA) at our Plymouth site on a part time basis. The CHA role will initially be offered as a six month fixed term contract, with the potential to become a permanent position in the future.This is your chance to train to be a Core Health Advisor in our 111 call centre, handling calls from members of the public. You’ll learn how to use a state-of-the-art triage tool called NHS Pathways to assess patients over the phone and direct them to the most appropriate care. Although these are not emergency calls, you’ll also need to be prepared to deal with emotional, distressing or life-threatening scenarios and to arrange for 999 services if required.Please find the Core Health Advisor job description attached for further information.For this role, you must be willing and flexible to work shifts that are mostly during the days, evenings and weekends (hours: 07:00 – 23:00 Monday to Sunday). You will work a shift pattern which is set for you by our Workforce Planning Team at least 4 weeks in advance.You can expect a guaranteed minimum of one full weekend off every four weeks. Contracts will be restricted to 16, 20, 24, and 30 hours per week, plus a guaranteed regular day off on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (to be agreed based on availability)Training:All NHS 111 Health Advisors are required to complete a number of NHS Pathways and NHS 111 service specific courses in order to be a licensed operator working within the live service. To train to be a highly trained advisor you will need to be committed to attend one of our training dates.The full-time programmes runs over a four week period whilst the part-time training runs over a six week period.You can pick either of the training courses we have available:Part Time Training (Every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 6pm – 9.30pm & Every Saturday and Sunday 9am – 5pm) for 6 weeksFull Time Training (Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm) for 4 weeksOur next training dates available are:Monday 7th May – Full Time TrainingMonday 10th June – Full Time TrainingSaturday 15th June – Full Time TrainingMonday 8th July – Full Time TrainingSaturday 27th July – Part Time TrainingWhat you’ll be doingAs a member of the Integrated Urgent Care team (IUC), you will be first point of contact for members of the public with a 24 hour urgent but non-emergency health concern, you will be providing advice and signposting assistance to onward care utilising the NHS Pathways triage system.Following assessment, our Core Health Advisors can:
- If they are well, advice and support on accessing local services such as general practice, dentists, pharmacies and other healthcare services.
- If they have a query about their medication, immediate support from a pharmacist.
- If they are unwell or calling on behalf of a child or someone they care for who is unwell, providing over the phone-assessment, identification of the most appropriate care for the issue and appropriate advice for managing the condition at the time.
- Transfer calls to our clinical assessment service which is on hand 24/7 to provide expert advice, assessment and support, preventing the need for patients to make further calls.
The training has three components:1. Foundation training (four weeks broken down into two core modules)2. Audit, coaching and probation period (minimum of six months) followed by a one day sign off course.3. Ongoing audit, development and update training.Rate of Pay:£11.48 per hour during training£16.80 per hour between 7am-11pm Monday to Sunday£18.38 per hour between 11pm-7am Monday to SundayWhat you will get:

What we’ll look for in youWhat you will need:
- GCSE/Functional Skills English and Maths at Grade C (or equivalent) or above.
- Excellent listening and communication skills, ideally with IT and keyboard skills, plus some previous experience of working and communicating with the public.
- A real passion for helping other people, with the ability to learn all sorts of new skills and to thrive and develop in a fun, friendly, well-supported team.
