Job description: Robertson Bell are ecstatic to be partnering with The Kennedy Trust for Rheumatology Research – a fantastic non-for-profit organisation who are seeking a permanent Operations Support Officer to join their successful and dynamic team.
This role is a rare opportunity, for someone with an interest in enabling the pursuit of medical research or with a general interest in the not-for-profit sector. This is a newly created permanent position, reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Operations and will form a critical part of the day-to-day running of the Trust and will assume a wide breadth of responsibilities. This role also represents an opportunity for the development of a range of high-quality skills with in-house support and training provided for the right candidate.
The key responsibilities of the Operations Support Officer include:
- Trust Governance: Manage communications and provide administrative support to the Board of Trustees and Committees, co-ordinating, arranging and minute taking of meetings and maintenance of records for regulatory compliance.
- Financial Administration: Processing of invoices, payment runs, expenses and recording of transactions in the accounting system.
- Supporting the operational planning and running of the Trust: Administrative support to the team, first point of contact for enquiries, maintaining office supplies and liaising with external suppliers.

The Kennedy Trust for Rheumatology Research is a successful charity that provides sustainable, long-term funding of medical research into rheumatic and related musculoskeletal, immunological, and inflammatory diseases. A small funding body founded in 1965, The Trust has accumulated substantial reserves from the proceeds of therapeutics developed for the treatment of rheumatic and related inflammatory diseases. These are invested and the returns from these investments are used to meet the Trust’s charitable objectives through funding research, with a significant proportion provided to support the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology based at the University of Oxford, along with an increasing proportion to other centres across the UK.

Essential requirements
- Experience in managing a wide range of responsibilities.
- An articulate communicator with the ability to work confidently with a range of stakeholders.
- Have strong experience or transferable skills requiring eloquent and clear written communication.
- Excellent time management and ability to prioritise competing obligations to meet deadlines.
- Ability to follow set processes, procedures, and controls.
- Have experience in working independently.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a small team, showing initiative, adaptability, flexibility, problem- solving skills and desire to benefit the whole team.
Desirable requirements
- Previous experience of minute taking in a formal setting.
- Data entry, bookkeeping or similar experience.
- Experience or interest in the medical research, grant making or not-for profit sector.
It is expected that the Operations Support Officer will work from the Trust’s office in Hammersmith once a week (Tuesdays) with the rest of the team, as well as in-person attendance Board and Committee meetings (approx. 12 per annum).
This is a flexible organisation and are happy to accept applications from those seeking a full-time (35 hours) or a part-time (28 hours) position, with the preference that those hours will be worked across 5 days (Monday – Friday).
