Job description: The role of Payroll Administrator is to be responsible for a designated area of employees within the faculty, accessing and inputting data via HR/Pay system you will ensure all contractual and temporary payroll changes meet prescribed guidelines and all transactions adhere to current legislation.

  • To work as part of a team of payroll Administrators, assigned to a specific Faculty
  • To accurately prepare the payroll, for those areas of responsibility assigned, ensuring all pension, taxation and NI deductions are applied correctly
  • To ensure that accurate and timely deductions are made for all other Statutory and/or Voluntary deductions, as may be required
  • To implement authorised changes to Employees and salary, pension and taxation records for individuals
  • To ensure the proper and accurate recording of adjustments to salary payments, arising from sick pay adjustments, maternity pay and other absences from work, as authorised by HR
  • To ensure that all new starters and leavers are accurately adjusted on the payroll system, all statutory forms are completed and where necessary overpayments are processed
  • To assist with the processing of payments for One off payments, Sole Traders/IR35 and overseas engagements

Essential criteria

  • Educated to GSCE standard or equivalent (including Mathematics and English)
  • Knowledge and understanding of payroll processes, taxation and National Insurance regulations including statutory reporting requirements
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Experience of using an integrated HR/Payroll system
  • Experience of working and delivering payroll services to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience of a customer service environment
  • Must have the ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own workload and work proactively as part of a small but busy team

Desirable criteria

  • Basic understanding of employment law
  • Knowledge of University Pension Schemes
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows, and MS office ie Outlook, Word and Excel
  • CIPP Qualification
