Philanthropy Writer
Working in partnership with hundreds of other Christian and relief organisations, MAF enables practical help, physical healing and spiritual hope to be delivered to some of the world’s most remote and inaccessible communities. We are now seeking an experienced, creative and enthusiastic Philanthropy writer to join our team to support the development of relationships with high-net-worth individuals, a wide variety of trusts/foundations and corporate supporters. In this role you will make a key contribution in producing engaging written communications to grow both restricted and unrestricted income.
Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will be
Producing impactful and effective publicity materials and brochures by:
- Liaising regularly with Department Head and Relationship Managers to produce detailed and bespoke brochures, presenting the work of MAF and specific projects
- Consulting on draft copy with relevant colleagues in the team and with MAF UK’s Copywriter & Editor to hone final results
- Using MAF’s tools, databases and platforms, including PowerBI, Bynder (media library) and MAF International (MAFI) intranet etc. to illustrate written reports with compelling visual support
- Liaising with design and procurement colleagues within the Creative Comms Team, and with external design agencies where necessary, to see product through to completion, subject to budgetary approval from Department Head
Developing funding propositions and report writing by:
- Researching and writing funding proposals/applications for individuals and trusts and foundations
- Liaising regularly with Relationship Managers to produce tailored reports and communications for individual donors and prospects
- Fulfilling reporting requirements, producing informative, accurate and detailed interim and final reports for donors
- Communicate with relevant internal departments to ensure current and accurate information is used across funding materials
- Maintaining accurate, detailed reports of the status, funding and reporting requirements of each proposal to ensure that the CRM is updated accordingly
- creating design templates, e.g. using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (most ideally) or Canva for proposals, reports, and publicity material as required
- Using PowerBI, Bynder and other tools to illustrate written reports with compelling visual support
Supporting donor relations by:
- Using PowerBI, Bynder and MAFI intranet to research updates and compile reports at agreed intervals (e.g. quarterly, bi-annual) on specific projects that donors have supported, including aircraft reports
- Compiling other comprehensive reporting documents in line with donor requirements, which could include institutional funders
Supporting donor cultivation events by:
- Participating in the wide range of donor cultivation events, providing logistical and administrative support to members of the Philanthropy and Partnerships team
- Producing any additional written materials relevant to events, including potentially drafting invitations and assisting Partnership Coordinators with writing event briefing packs when required
Programme data & information gathering
- Undertaking information-gathering on behalf of the team from a variety of sources including relevant humanitarian and mission news relating to countries in which MAF operates, for use in the Case for Support documents
- Producing regular aircraft activity reports for donors using qualitative and quantitative data
- Building relationships with MAFI Communications team, Regional Communications Officers across the MAFI world, and with the Communications Officers of partner organisations where appropriate and helpful to our reporting
- Uploading information gathered to the central media library (Bynder)
- Attending regular Comms and Funding meetings
Other Responsibilities
- Assisting fellow team members with written communications as requested (e.g. crafting emails, mailshots, flyers, webpages)
- Preparing video content – writing scripts for videos, searching available images and existing videos on the comms database, liaising with in-house videographers on basic film editing

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Educated to degree Level with a focus on written English communications/marketing
- Recent experience of researching complex issues to produce compelling written reports
- Financially literate, with experience of translating financial information into compelling written reports
Desirable Experience
- Writing and/or fund-raising qualification
- A strong working knowledge of UK data protection legislation, GDPR and Fund-raising Code of Practice
- Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
- Accuracy and fact-checking skill
- Efficient and organised approach
- Able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Proficient skills in Microsoft applications
Terms and Conditions:
- Location: This role is base at the MAF UK Offices in Folkestone, Kent. We welcome hybrid working in line with our
, the needs of the business, the requirements of the role and your location. This will be discussed at interview. * Working Hours: At least 36 hours per week, with 1 hour for lunch daily unpaid. Hours should be agreed with line manager.
- Annual Leave: Annual leave entitlement of 22 days per year and 8 paid public holidays per year.
- Pension Scheme: Non-contributory (10% of salary).
- Probation and Notice Period: 3 months each.
- Salary: Specialist £33,500 per annum
