Job description: We are seeking a Planning Policy Team Leader who will play a pioneering role in leading on the Hertsmere Local Plan process and the creation of the borough’s Policy Framework. This is a great opportunity to lead an experienced and dedicated team of planning policy staff and leave your mark on one of Hertfordshire’s most vibrant and diverse boroughs.The Role:An opportunity for a dynamic-individual to provide leadership and creativity during the Local Plan process; but also someone who can manage a complex workload and represent the authority at a senior level when dealing with partners and developers. The role also extends beyond the Local Plan, you will be required to provide policy-input into major development management applications; represent at committee and cabinet, as well as overseeing the production of all policy plans and programs.Key Responsibilities include:Leading on the Hertsmere Local Plan, including evidence base development, policy drafting and public engagement.Effectively leading a team of policy officers, keeping them motivated and helping to develop their skills.Undertaking the statutory functions of the Policy Team and ensuring they are delivered on time and to a high degree of quality.The Place:Hertsmere itself enjoys good rail and road links with London and other major cities, offering a great balance of city and countryside. Our heritage of film and television production dates back to the early 20th century as well as a budding avionics specialism developing at London Elstree Aerodrome, all of this helps to make Hertsmere an exciting and ever-developing region.About You:The role suits a planning policy professional with knowledge and experience in plan-making and a proven track record of undertaking complex planning policy work. The ideal candidate must demonstrate experience of successfully leading teams, have excellent interpersonal skills and the capability to work with a range of stakeholders. You will have outstanding communication skills, the ability to produce high-quality reports and the capacity to explain intricate planning issues to different audiences.The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).Benefits include 26 – 31 days annual leave (depending on the length of Local Government Service) plus one floating day per annum, local government pension scheme, flexible working hours (including the opportunity to take up to 2 days flexi leave per month), free car parking, free gym membership, free yoga classes, cycle scheme, free Beryl Bike scheme, and season ticket loans.
