Job description: By working clinically as a member of the nursing team you will work in partnership with the Pre-Surgical Senior sister and Matron to provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership for Pre-surgical preparation team of qualified and non-qualified staff. This will cover both pre-assessment and the admissions area of the Surgical admissions unit. The post holder will be required to deputize in the absence of the Pre-Surgical senior Sister/Matron and ensure a positive patient experience through the delivery of high standards of patient careMain duties of the job

  • To provide a safe environment for patient care.
  • To ensure best practice with infection prevention and control.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the motivation of the team to maintain a high standard of patient care.
  • To ensure the highest standards of clinical care by providing strong leadership and support.
  • Managerial Leadership
  • Responsible for the day to day management of staff within your specialty including; co-ordination and training within own sphere of influence, recruitment and selection and conducting appraisals and PDP’s.
  • Ensure staff competence for clinical practice procedures, using trust competency framework, including appropriate underpinning knowledge and practical skill.
  • Monitor and maximise the use of resources including managing stock levels and equipment within your sphere of responsibility.
  • Monitor performance and manage the nursing staff in areas of responsibility, ensuring all employment records are locally maintained and current.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in line with the Data Protection Act and your professional code of conduct.
  • Actively promote research awareness and participate in research-based projects and participate in working groups as required.
  • Take a lead role in the evaluation of services and implement quality assurance programmes as directed by the line manager

Continuous quality improvement Expert Clinical Skills Manages stress/anxiety effectively. Calm under pressure Good problem solving skills IT Literate Good communication Encourages staff to develop and empower staff groups. Negotiating & Influencing skills Enthusiastic and willing to learn Credible leader Ability to manage a group of staff. Ability to manage conflicting and complex issues Venepuncture, ECG
