Join us.Job DescriptionThis position is for a Consulting Principal Engineer role within our AECOM Birmingham Rail Bridges and Structures Team.Our office is located in Birmingham City Centre, walking distance from New Street and Snow Hill Train Stations. Our office has a modern layout with plenty of space to accommodate flexible working arrangements. Our Birmingham Office is a multi-disciplinary transportation design hub catering for multiple local authority, government and private clients.This opportunity is within the Rail and Highways Structure Team and for this role you would be responsible to lead a team of Engineers and providing technical and project management guidance on a variety of highways and rail related structures projects. Projects include assessments of highway and rail structures as well as new designs for a variety of private and government clients.We recognise a variety of experience and backgrounds may suit this role and that experience levels in specific technical areas may vary.   • Leading a team of Engineers to deliver projects on time and to budget.
  • Support with work winning, project management activities and client facing, to ensure project delivery remains on plan.
  • Previous exposure with clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors.
  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for a team. Technical expertise should include the ability to carry out independent structural analysis and design / assessment of rail or highways structures.
  • Strong ability in finite element modelling. Knowledge of Lusas is beneficial.
  • Experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes.
  • Ability to manage staff and project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
  • Good knowledge of the Eurocode Standards and DMRB.
  • Provides support to the team for professional development.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff’s specific area of expertise.
  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of S&E packages.
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepares technical specification sections in accordance with the MCWH and DMRB.
  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer with ICE or IstructE
