Principal Mechanical Engineer

We’re a proud Manchester institution and have ambitious plans for our future. At the heart of our vision are our people – a diverse, inclusive community of individuals who work together to create positive change for the world around them.

Research and teaching are the foundation of what we do, but the University relies on a range of roles to help create the exceptional. If you think boldly, act with integrity and celebrate difference, then this could be the place for you.

Our University continues to develop its extensive estate, and now require a suitably talented and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to create a ‘best- in- class’ service across their portfolio.

Reporting to the Assistant Head of Facilities Maintenance and Compliance, the post will be responsible for setting, developing and monitoring all mechanical engineering design and maintenance standards. You will take full accountability for the strategic leadership and smooth running of planned and cyclical mechanical maintenance works and overseeing reactive works to ensure full statutory compliance. This covers the full remit of mechanical services including all district heating networks, steam powered, HVAC, pressure systems and gas fired plant.

The successful candidate will possess a proven track record in mechanical engineering management across a similar diverse multi-site estate portfolio. You will be a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership, with extensive experience in the strategic maintenance of the full range of mechanical systems. The role would suit an individual with strong people management skills who is adept in motivating and empowering engineering professionals. Strong interpersonal skills are required as you’ll need to establish effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and be able to foster a culture of project delivery excellence across a large complex organisation.

The role offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual to play a key part in the continuing and future success of the University and its wider role in the north-west region. The candidate brief can be viewed here: https://online.flippingbook.com/view/464655466/

To arrange a confidential discussion and/or to request the full briefing particulars please contact our retained advisor David Craven of The Management Recruitment Group via email at david.craven@mrgglobal.com or on 07932 717438.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 12 May.
