Programme Manager – Public Engagement at UK Research and Innovation

Contract Type: Open Ended
Location: Swindon, Polaris House (Hybrid working available with a minimum of 1 day per week in the office)
We are looking for a Programme Manager to join UK Research and Innovation’s public engagement team. You will play a key role in shaping UKRI’s future work on public engagement.
Job Overview:
The programme manager will contribute to the delivery of UKRI’s £12m+ public engagement portfolio, including the management and delivery of programmes and the development of new activity.
UKRI funds and manages national public engagement infrastructure including the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) and the STEM Ambassadors. We design and deliver grants such as the Community Knowledge Fund and host the national public dialogue programme Sciencewise and the Public Attitudes to Science Survey. We also support researchers and innovators to involve the public in their work. We do all of this work to ensure that research and innovation are relevant and accessible to all, and to make sure the benefits of research and innovation are shared widely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the successful delivery of UKRI’s public engagement programmes, including managing budgets and ensuring commissioned activities are delivered on time and to a high standard
- Organise and run events, roundtables and workshops
- Scope and develop new public engagement activities, such as grants and experimental projects
- Develop new partnerships and engage with key stakeholders, including funders, policy makers, academics and practitioners
About You:
- Successful track record of programme management and delivery, ideally related to research and innovation and/or public participation
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build and maintain strong working relationships with senior leadership and a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Ability to work with senior leaders and frontline practitioners
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
