We are partnering with one of the UK’s most iconic Automotive OEM’s in recruiting an experienced Purchasing Engineer for their Aftermarket operations.

Working within the Parts Operations procurement team, providing the technical and engineering expertise to assist and support the team of buyers in achieving the departmental and business objectives, the focus on securing the best commercial terms, with excellent quality and delivery service levels from our suppliers.

Purchasing Engineer Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Responsible for providing engineering support to buyers in Parts Operations and providing a link to the central R&D commodity engineering function.
  • Provide technical assistance to buyers on components and component tooling, providing support during supplier discussions and site visits.
  • Maintain Tooling register and tool asset tagging, support buyers with supplier tooling issues and provide key point of contact for the Tool storage suppliers.
  • Provide technical assistance to buyers during supplier resource activities, through evaluation of supplier capabilities, components, and tooling. Compile and validate process documentation. Assist in the resource planning, co-ordination and movement of tooling and assembly equipment. Utilise process mapping techniques to assist the new supplier and ensure consistency of product.
  • Provide technical assistance to procurement team in relation to component materials, specifications, and manufacturing techniques, with an appreciation of both existing technologies and new innovations, able to utilise and recommend the most appropriate production methods for the components and service volume.
  • Commercially aware and able to support buyers in commercial discussions with current and potential suppliers, with clear understanding of the value chain drivers, able to contribute to price negotiations to reduce the total cost, ensuring margins are maximised.
  • Understand and support the quality department in achieving full Quality Approval.
  • Support Procurement in challenging suppliers to recommend more cost effective and/or more reliable products that will improve our competitive position, assist in evaluation of recommendations.
  • Support Procurement team and promote good supplier relationships.
  • Support the Procurement function to achieve its business objectives, through meeting or exceeding defined objectives.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Educated to degree level in engineering, mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment
  • Can work and execute tasks independently when required.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting, drawings, CAD, specifications, and regulations.
  • PC skills including, MS Office and Auto CAD.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Product engineering or Supplier development is required within automotive industry would be preferred but not essential.
  • Should have detailed knowledge about component design, manufacturing methods, tooling, and materials in the automotive industry.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise tasks and have effective time management skills.
