GLD has been successful in securing an enhanced pay offer for lawyers.

This multi-year deal means that in addition to the salary offered to Grade 7 lawyers via our current qualified lawyer campaign there will be a further increase next year. In April 2024, the minimum of the Grade 7 lawyer salary will be £59,200 (National) or £61,200 (London).

These vacancies are for permanent roles across all our London, Leeds, Manchester and Bristol based divisions. We have roles that can be worked full-time, part-time or as part of a job share. For certain roles, some travel may be required, including to Brussels.

Our starting salary for Grade 7 lawyers is £58,000 (London) or £56,500 (Leeds, Manchester, Bristol) and £47,541 for those joining us with less than 3 years’ PQE until they hit 3 years’ PQE or are in service for one year, whichever comes sooner. Please note salary is non-negotiable. As a successful applicant with under one year of post-qualification experience will join as a Legal Officer and can opt in or out of the 2+2 scheme.

The 2+2 Scheme is a four-year process through which colleagues spend two years in either a contentious or non-contentious post followed by a second two-year period in a role in the other discipline. The scheme is designed to provide newly qualified lawyers with a well-rounded introduction to their career as a government lawyer.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Academic
Applicants must be qualified to practise as a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive in England and Wales (or will be qualified 3 months from application date). You must have completed a training contract/pupillage/qualifying employment, or have been exempted from this by the Law Society, the Bar Council or CILEx.
