Job Summary
The National Heart and Lung Institute is looking for a research assistant to join the Inflammation, Repair and Development section based in South Kensington. You will work with a team of dedicated scientists and clinician-scientists on an exciting new project funded by Asthma + Lung UK.
The successful candidate will be a hardworking individual with a keen interest in Immunology and the ability to work as part of a team. You will work in a supportive, stimulating environment to explore the potential for a neutrophil chemotaxis assay to be used as a diagnostic biomarker. This is intended to identify which paediatric patients with non-allergic preschool wheeze are likely to respond to antibiotic treatment.
Duties and responsibilities
- To develop and characterize suitable methodologies for the assessment of neutrophil chemotaxis responses
- To assist with the analysis of data
- To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
- To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
- To assist with the writing of reports to research sponsors
- To present findings to colleagues
- To assist with the publication of findings
Essential requirements
- A first class/ masters degree (or equivalent) in biomedical science or a related discipline
- Previous experience in a research laboratory environment, including cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques.
- Knowledge of molecular and cell biology, and biochemistry
- Knowledge of basic research methods and statistical procedures
- Knowledge of general laboratory practice, techniques and instrumentation

This position is a full time (35h/pw) position on a fixed term basis for 12 months based at South Kensington Campus/Hammersmith Campus (East Acton).
