Role Description

At Research Assistant level, full time starting salary is in the range of £28,203 to £32,039 per annum, with potential progression up to £39,586 per annum.

At Research Fellow level, full time starting salary is in the range of £37,337 to £41,406 per annum, with potential progression up to £51,298 per annum.

About the Role

As a Research Assistant/Fellow within the Advanced Vehicle Engineering Centre, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching at postgraduate level and support our research activities in autonomous navigation on highway. As a key aspect of this role, you will need to maintain and develop some of our tools, including our autonomous driving software stack, and the simulation environment that supports the validation of autonomous driving functions. You will be expected to supervise MSc students, and to assist with administrative tasks related to the preparation/management of projects and courses.

About You

You will have a Master’s Degree or equivalent in autonomous systems, mechatronic engineering, or closely allied topics. You will have experience in the development of software for vehicular/robotics applications, ideally on planning and modelling of vehicle trajectories, and you will be a competent team player.

You will have strong knowledge of the hardware and software architecture of autonomous driving systems, and software engineering good practice. You will have good written and graphical communication skills and have aptitudes for self-motivation and time management. You will have the ability to demonstrate our values: Ambition, Impact, Respect and Community.

To be appointed at Research Fellow level

You will have completed (or you are close to completion of) a PhD in a relevant subject. In the past two years, you will have been first-author or joint first-author on at least one publication (pending publications can be considered) in a reputable academic journal.
