Research Associate at University of Bath

We have an exciting research opportunity to join the Centre for Nutrition, Exercise and Metabolism (CNEM) in the Department for Health at the University of Bath. 

About the role 

We are looking for a Research Associate with a background in human physiology, biosciences, nutrition, or metabolism to work on a new collaborative project grant supported by BBSRC. 

The purpose of this post is to lead and co-ordinate a human study that will examine the impact of adipose tissue inflammation on skeletal muscle protein metabolism in older people. This highly collaborative project will be based at Bath under the supervision of Professor Dylan Thompson and Dr Francoise Koumanov, and involves collaborators in Exeter (Professors Ben Wall and Francis Stephens) and Birmingham (Dr James Turner and Professor Leigh Breen).

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis with a duration of 36 months. 

About you 

You will have experience of conducting studies with human volunteers, including the handling of blood and/or tissue samples. Other relevant experience would be valuable, such as prior experience of working with older people and/or sophisticated analysis of blood or tissue samples (e.g., flow cytometry), however this is not essential and full training will be provided. 

This position is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in state-of-the-art techniques, including stable isotope tracers (in vivo and in vitro), spectral flow cytometry, scRNAseq, bioinformatics, and high content confocal microscopy.
