Research Associate*/Research Assistant, Biomedical Data Science at University of Cambridge
Job Description
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher in biomedical data science to join our team at the Cambridge Baker Systems Genomics Initiative (CBSGI) and Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care (DPHPC). The post would suit a naturally collaborative and self-motivated researcher interested in studying cardiometabolic diseases and their commonly occurring comorbidities by applying their skills to analyse large-scale genomic and phenotypic/health-record data in the CEU’s broad portfolio of genetic and multi-omic data from different cohorts.
The primary role of the post-holder will be to lead projects involving the quantitative analysis and interpretation of genomic and phenotypic data using polygenic scores, GWAS, Mendelian randomisation, and other statistical and machine-learning techniques. The successful candidate will have research interests aligned with those of CBSGI and CEU. They will have the freedom to develop new research ideas, in particular by leading/contributing to new grant or fellowship applications.
Initial potential research projects include:
- developing polygenic scores that use the full spectrum of allele frequencies for genetic prediction
- integrating multi-omics data to determine the molecular etiology of specific multimorbidity patterns involving cardiometabolic diseases
- prediction of multimorbidity trajectories by combining data from health records, lifestyle factors, and genetic data
- assess and address equitability issues in multimorbidity aetiology and risk prediction across ancestries and other demographics
This position is full-time and is initially available for 2 years from commencement in post, with the possibility of extension.
We offer an excellent employment package that includes:
- Pension schemes
- Hybrid working through a blend of remote and office working
- Family-friendly initiatives
- Career development opportunities
- Support for health & mental wellbeing
- Generous holiday entitlement
The post will be located at the new Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart & Lung Research Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Papworth Road, Trumpington, Cambridge CB2 0BB
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Samuel Lambert (sl925@medschl.cam.ac.uk).
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
