Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £34,980 to £44,263 with potential progression once in post to £46,974. Grade 7
Hours: Part Time (18.75 working hours per week)
Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to October 2024
The Health Services Management Centre (HSMC) is a thriving community of around 50 academic and professional support staff based within the School of Social Policy. HSMC seeks to combine both rigour and relevance by conducting world-class research and development, working alongside national policy makers and NHS and social care colleagues to help them understand and implement the findings.
The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme
The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme is an accredited leadership development programme for people working in healthcare who are looking to progress their career as leaders. The EGA programme develops the knowledge, understanding, intellectual, practical and personal skills of participants. The central tenet of the programme is that it enables participants to put their work role, tasks and experiences to practical use in their study of leadership, while also providing a vehicle for personal and professional development.
Role Summary
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to be involved in evaluation and research about the impact of the Anderson Programme. The focus of this role is to generate valuable learning and development regarding the impact of programme. You will work with data held jointly by the University of Birmingham and the NHS Leadership Academy (NHS England) relating to and resulting from the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme. Working with this data, under the guidance and supervision of experienced academics and a former NHS leader, you will lead on specified projects contributing to new understandings of the programme and its impact on participants and the wider health system.
Tasks will include:
- Analysing and interpreting primary and secondary data
- Analysing and interpreting research evidence findings and results
- Conducting narrative or systematic literature views to support the above
- Contributing to NHS engagement activities and informing practice
Person Specification
This is a practical role with an emphasis on sophisticated relational and communication skills. You must be comfortable with developing knowledge in a way which creates new intellectual understanding regarding NHS leadership, disseminating research findings for publication or for seminars, and contributing to developing new models, techniques and methods. You will also:
- Hold a first degree in the area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications/ experience
- Have a high level of analytical capability
- Be able to communicate complex information clearly
- Have fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
- Have a working knowledge of NHS structures, processes, and systems, sufficient to facilitate an informed approach to research design.
- Experience of research/ evaluation specifically around large-scale leadership development programmes (desirable)
