Join Dr. Leney’s laboratory within the Advanced Mass Spectrometry facility at the prestigious University of Birmingham and become a vital part of groundbreaking research in the fascinating realm of photosynthetic complexes! We are seeking a talented Post-Doctoral Researcher with expertise in biochemistry and/or mass spectrometry to uncover the secrets of a light-controlling switch that has the capability to enhance photosynthetic efficiency.

As a member of our dynamic team, you will have the unique opportunity to extract and purify vibrant, fluorescent protein complexes from cyanobacteria and microalgae, paving the way for revolutionary discoveries in the field. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in advancing mass spectrometry techniques, including top-down, cross-linking, HDX, and native mass spectrometry, while contributing your expertise to other captivating projects centered on post-translational modifications.

Role Summary

  • Perform structural biology and mass spectrometry research within the research area of cyanobacteria
  • Develop mass spectrometry methodologies for applications to cyanobacteria research
  • Work within specified research grants and projects and contribute to writing bids 
  • Operate within area of specialism

Main Duties

The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research, with assistance of a mentor if required
  • Contribute to writing bids for research funding
  • Analyse and interpret data

Person Specification

  • First degree in area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
