Job description: The service aims to provide high quality and effective respiratory diagnostic service, that provides technical and interpretative reports.During 2024 there had been a restructure and as such we are now looking to further develop and grow the service. The respiratory department offer a range of tests and will be developing further tests. This service aims to be a highly specialised service that provides respiratory diagnostic procedures for all ages.As a senior member of the team you will be required to support the development of trainee’s, SOP’s, and service development in line with the lead scientist and the GM.You will work within the departments across the Trust, and provide ward based tests, where required.Be responsible for your own work and support those trainee’s within the department.Perform a range of respiratory investigations.Undertake the necessary mandatory training as required.The post holder will be expected at all times to work within the standard operating policies and procedures of the department and more broadly the NHS organisation. The successful applicant will adhere to high standards of professionalism, health and safety, risk reduction, confidentiality, patient care and dignity, and respect for equality and diversity as set out in the NHS Constitution.Main duties of the jobClinical dutiesTo Provide and contribute to the day to day running of the serviceTo provide specialist advice to clinicians and colleagues as requiredTo analyse and interpret lung function tests and where required explain their meaning to non-respiratory colleaguesTo be responsible for the recording of all activity, validation of results in a timely mannerTo perform without supervision the following respiratory investigations in accordance with ARTP/BTS/ERS guidelinesSpirometry/Flow volume loopsSingle breath Gas transferStatic lung volumes via body plethysmographyFeNOReversibility studiesMuscle function testsPerforming and interpret capillary blood gasesThe following service will be developed/restarted in the next 2 yearsCPETChallenge testingField exercise testsSkin prick testHyperventilation studiesHypoxic challenge testsAbout usWe are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people.   • A minimum of 3 years experience as a qualified physiologist Experience of independent and accurate performance and reporting of a range of respiratory physiology tests

Desirable

  • Some teaching experience. Some research experience. Experience working in a respiratory physiology department

QualificationsEssential

  • Completion of STP or BSc & Ma/MSc in a related science subject Or Equivalence to STP level

Desirable

  • Registered on AHCS or HCPC register ARTP part 1 & 2 exams or equivalent

KnowledgeEssential

  • Knowledge of respiratory tests, contraindications and indications for different tests. Knowledge of respiratory diseases and their effects on respiratory function Investigations and therapeutic interventions used to treat respiratory conditions

Desirable

  • Experience in performing, interpreting and reporting on specialist respiratory diagnostic tests, to include bronchial challenge, CPET, capillary blood gases, hyperventilation studies
