Hourly Rate: £14.14 (paid breaks) – subject to pay rise from January 2024

Job Overview

The retail arcade fire safety officer will work within the retail arcade of the Shard building.

IT competence (Excel, MS Word, Google sheets) is essential as the security officer will manage numerous systems and produce various reports and documents.

Job objectives

  • Responsible fire safety within the Shard Quarter Retail Arcade
  • Investigate single knock alarms within the retail arcade
  • Security presence and first response on alarm activation and incidents
  • Conduct periodic, planned and unplanned patrols using an electronic reporting & monitoring system (Patrol Management System)
  • Static standing posts
  • Maintain a vigilant, pro-active security presence to minimise security risks to people and property
  • Identify and report any damage, health and safety issues, faults & security concerns
  • Engage and build relationships with the retail arcade occupiers
  • Provide a safe, secure, and protective environment for the assets and all users accessing the retail arcade.
  • Understanding of current security, building and local risks
  • Have a detailed knowledge of any and all areas required to be patrolled in the course of their duties
  • Complete property audits
  • The retail arcade officer is to check all emergency equipment is in place, available and in full working order.
  • Respond to and assist with all incidents as directed and/or effectively manage as the first point of contact.
  • Respond to the retail arcade evacuation and provide early detection of a fire and as an immediate presence and response to assist on a single and double knock
  • Ensure the area is free of any defects, damages, non-compliance and non- conformities.

Main Duties

  • First response to retail arcade incidents and fire alarm activations
  • Inspect and ensure all equipment is in place and in full working order.
  • Respond to and assist with all incidents as directed and/or effectively manage as the first point of contact.
  • Conduct patrols as per SOP’s
  • Static observations
  • Identify, address and report security, health & safety, fabric, non-compliance issues and concerns
  • Ensure SCR DOB records record all relevant information
  • Detect, report and react to real time risks (i.e. flood, smoke, gas, voltage, motion issues) to the building and estate.
  • Utilise Body Worn Video (BWV)
  • Understand and apply emergency procedures
  • Conversant with patrol management system
  • Record issues, concerns, non-conformities on the patrol system
  • Follow escalation and reporting processes for incidents
  • Effectively respond to and manage incidents, alarms, emergencies
  • Complete and successfully pass cross training for retail arcade officer
  • Deliver a consistent high level of customer service
  • Ensure KPI’s are always met or exceeded
  • Carry out work in a safe and diligent manner, complying with all client and company policies and procedures.
  • Undertake additional duties in line with management requests as required.
  • Uphold great working relationships with the client, service providers, contractors, occupiers and stakeholders
  • Compliance – have a full understand of, and adhere to all client and Mitie procedures and policies including but not limited to: Assignment Instructions, risk assessments and standard operating procedures
  • Maintain a flexible and professional approach in dealing with all enquiries
  • Act as a brand ambassador of Shard Quarter and Mitie at all times
  • Work as part of a close team, communicating effectively with others
  • Respond proactively to reasonable management request
  • Display a high standard of personal appearance and uniform including PPE
  • Report, record and manage all health and safety matters (near misses, RIDDOR, accidents, incidents)
  • Apply health and safety policies and procedures
  • Manage all systems and equipment, maintain full functionality. Effectively report, address and resolve any faults, issues, repairs etc.

Expected salary: £14.14 per hour
