AHUK offers considerable experience in helicopter sales, bespoke completions, maintenance and spares support. Its in-house engineering capabilities include design, customisation, installation, flight-testing and
certification, as well as technical support, maintenance, training and the supply of spares for civil and military applications.AHUK is the MoD’s chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for its Defence Helicopter Flyingschool (referred to as MFTS) located in RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) and RAF Valley (Anglesey).

Description/Overall purpose of the Job

Rotary Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical/Avionic) Apprentice – Shawbury – AHUK – UK Military Flying Training System (Rotary Wing)
Reports to AHUK – UK MFTS (RW) Maintenance Operations Manager and AHUK – Training and Compliance Manager In September 2024 AIRBUS Helicopters are going to recruit up to 8 new apprentices.
● up to 8 for Mechanical/Avionic Rotary Maintenance Engineer Apprentices, (B1/B2).
Minimum age is 18 to work at RAF Shawbury.
The apprenticeship is open to UK citizens and certain EEC/EU citizens subject to ESFA rules. The Apprenticeship will run for 5 years in order to get a B1.3 (Mechanical) or B2 (Avionic) UK CAA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence without Type, so those enrolled for September 2024 would normally be
looking to gain their UK Part 66 licenses towards the end of 2029.

We are looking for vibrant people with a genuine interest in aviation engineering who can display a good knowledge of English, Maths and Science, specifically physics, with a minimum grade 6 at GCSE for each
of these subjects. Successful applicants will spend their first year mainly at a Part 147 approved organisation (aviation technical college) covering hand skills, basic mechanical, avionic principles and UK CAA Part 66 aviation
modules. Finally achieving a CAT A license, L2, L3 qualifications in Aerospace and Aviation Engineering and Cat B1.3 (Mechanical) or B2 license (Avionics).

Workplace training will be conducted at AIRBUS Helicopters Shawbury on the Line and Maintenance hangars for work experience and mentoring as arranged by the Training Department.

The successful applicant would need to be able to make their own way to Shawbury for daily work and Cirencester (Part 147 approved organisation) for training in Year 1. We have a duty to provide all apprentices with the best start to their chosen career path within the aviationindustry.

The apprentice program that has been successfully run at AHUK for a number of years, is seen by others outside of AHUK, as the pinnacle of how an aviation apprentice scheme should be conducted, and we at MFTS intend to build upon this success.

Main responsibilities
● To complete an Apprenticeship in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.
● To Complete education for and qualify to gain a UK CAA Part 66 Cat A Aircraft Maintenance License end of year 3.
● To Complete education for and qualify to gain a UK.Part 66 Cat B1.3 or B2 Aircraft Maintenance License end of year 5.Education, Qualifications or Training

Essential
● Grade 6 or above in English, Maths and a Science based subject
Additional requirements
● Due to the nature of this position you will require DBS Security Clearance and be eligible for SC clearance.
● Applicants must meet any/all requirements of Export Compliance Regulations.
