As a Senior Accountant / Senior Capital Accountant / Senior Technical Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in driving financial excellence and provide accurate, timely and comprehensive financial information and analysis to inform decision making and financial management activities.We ask candidates to specify which role is their preference option upon application.Senior Accountant:Senior Accountant will support budget holders in monitoring and maintaining their budgets, as well as delivering on technical, finance and accountancy-related responsibilities. The post holder will support the management, development and updating of the medium-term financial strategy and annual budget to ensure that it supports the strategic aims of the council.Senior Capital Accountant:The Senior Capital Accountant will be responsible for the accurate management and reporting of the local authority’s capital expenditure, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and policies. The role will support the effective use of resources and provide advice to budget holders and senior management.Senior Technical Accountant:The Senior Technical Accountant will provide accurate statutory reporting, financial management information, monitoring of key financial assets and statutory returns. This will require accurate and timely reporting of information, data interpretation and analytical review to finance and non-finance Officers and Members.The following requirements are common across all the posts. However, due to the varying nature of the roles, please refer to the individual Job Descriptions for the full list of requirements for each.

  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification (e.g. CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent
  • Experience of successfully working in a team environment
  • Significant experience of applying technical accounting knowledge as part of financial management practices
  • Experience of in-depth support on financial year-end/closedown processes
  • Experience of producing statutory financial returns in line with deadlines
  • Demonstrable experience of maintaining financial control mechanisms, including reconciliation activity
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and accounting standards relevant to local government

Expected salary: £40221 – 43421 per year
