Scope
- To provide personal care to our Residents in line with the core values and values framework of the Home ensuring these are utilised at all times and to ensure that such care is delivered in line with the Resident’s individual care plan.
- To maintain clinical competencies including Tracheostomy and PEG. Provide care, support and supervision to Residents with tracheostomies in line with agreed policies and ways of working on a 1:1 basis.
- To ensure care that is delivered is safe, caring, effective and responsive to Resident’s needs, and play a part in creating and promoting an environment where excellence can flourish.
- To work within the operating framework of the Home with regards to the job level ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed at all times.
What will my duties be?
- Ensure the personal care needs of Residents are met and that assigned duties are executed in a professional and caring manner giving due regard to the Home’s core values and values framework and the Skills for Care Code of Conduct for Health and Social Care Workers, including hospital and community escort duties.
- To ensure documentation is completed in a timely fashion including personal care charts for Residents that reflect the care delivered and to escalate concerns regarding a Resident’s health and wellbeing to the nurse in charge at the earliest possible opportunity.
- Complete other assigned tasks not directly related to care as, from time to time instructed to do so by the nurse in charge of the shift.
- To work co-operatively with colleagues in the pursuit of the responsibilities of the post, with due regard to our diversity and inclusion framework and policies. To carry out the reasonable instructions of the nurse in charge, team leader or management staff to ensure optimal use of resources within the Home to ensure high quality care can be delivered at all times.
- To attend rostered shifts as defined in the off-duty and to follow all HR policies and procedures in the event of being unable to attend for a rostered shift; understanding that such absence risks service levels and has the potential to compromise standards of care.
- To ensure concepts learnt during mandatory training sessions, (health and safety, infection prevention and control, core values, and fire safety – this is not an exhaustive list) are upheld and demonstrated in practice during your working shift.
- To act at all times to uphold the CQC domains ensuring care delivered is safe, caring, effective and responsive.
- To use the clinical governance framework and adverse event reporting procedures to report any events that occur as per the Home’s policies and procedures.
What do I need to be successful?
For this role, you are required to have the following attributes:
- You Must have full right to work in the UK without sponsorship (we are not accepting candidates on a student visa and skilled workers)
- You have achieved your Ventilator, Tracheostomy & PEG feeding competency
- At least 3 years previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant.
- Communicate effectively through verbal and written skills and provide excellent customer service.
- A passion for caring for others.
- Work constructively as part of a team and understand your role and responsibilities.
- A positive attitude
- Willingness to undertake further training and development.
- It would be an advantage if you had an NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification, however, this isn’t essential.

Senior Healthcare Assistant
Shift : 12 hours shift day or night (08am to 08pm or 08pm to 08am)
Location: West Norwood
Contract: Permanent/Part time or full time
