Job Description

ABOUT US

Transforming lives through excellent education

London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have always been our driving principles, and it’s what makes the University so unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving some of London’s most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.

Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.

ABOUT THE POST

Do you have a background in building surveying, building pathology and construction technology?

This is your opportunity to contribute to the launch of our BSc (Hons) and MSc Building Surveying courses within the School of the Built Environment at London Met. These new programmes have been created in response to strong demand from local, national, and international employers for graduates with expertise in building surveying, building pathology, retrofit, digital surveying, and climate-resilient practice. The School aims to transform students’ lives and act as a driver for social equality by providing access to high-quality education that prepares them for professional roles in a rapidly evolving, digitally enabled built environment sector.

We are looking for an ambitious academic and/ or practitioner with industry experience who is seeking the next challenge in their careers and would relish the opportunity to join our School. The successful applicant will hold a PhD in a relevant field or demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained through professional practice, and will be professionally qualified with full membership of a relevant body such as RICS, CIOB, or CABE.

This post is situated within the Surveying and Real Estate subject area in the School of the Built Environment, based at our Holloway Road campus.

We are expanding our expertise in the area of Building Surveying and are looking for a committed individual to lead our new undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The ideal candidate will have academic or industry expertise in three or more of the following areas, with digital technologies being a required area of specialism:

  • Building pathology and defect analysis
  • Construction technology and building services
  • Building adaptation, retrofit and refurbishment
  • Building performance, maintenance and whole lifecycle value
  • Digital technologies, such as BIM, 3D laser scanning, drones, IoT sensors, mobile tools, AI, and machine learning to enhance data-driven building diagnostics, performance monitoring and asset management

This experience and expertise may have been gained through professional practice or substantial teaching and research in the field.

We expect the post holder to possess sufficient experience and knowledge – whether from industry, academia, or a combination of both – to develop engaging and inclusive teaching and assessment methods. They will also contribute to pastoral tutoring and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.

Interviews due to be held on week commencing 23 June 2025.
