Terrific opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join one of our well established client based in Lancashire!
JOB MISSION / PURPOSE
Lead the delivery of an integrated value engineering solution to meet the operational, functional and safety requirements for major capital investment on nuclear power stations, in accordance with the Site Licence. This is achieved by demonstrating leadership skills and applying design control to deliver nuclear safety benefits earlier than they otherwise would.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OUTCOMES
Lead the design and safety case teams (including external suppliers) to deliver the required technical inputs to the project to an agreed time, cost and appropriate quality.
Consider and identify the skill requirements of the design team and ensure appropriate SQEPs are secured and lined up to support.
Ensure integration and alignment of the engineering design, safety case and Investment Delivery Process (BEG/SPEC/PD/016)
Ensure the problem statement is clearly understood and appropriately documented.
Ensure appropriate ALARP studies are undertaken to assess the merits of different technical solutions.
Agree the work scope and ensure that safety, functional and operational requirements are defined.
Ensure the Basis of Design is documented and clearly aligns with the safety, functional and operational requirements
Ensure the design is adequately substantiated to verify the safety, functional and operational requirements have been met
Ensure design decisions are made in a timely manner by consulting SQEPs and exercising appropriate judgements
Act as the primary interface between Projects and CTO Functions.
Ensure compliance with the Design Control Process (BEG/SPEC/DCP/001) throughout the project lifecycle.
Liaise with the Authorised Designer (where appropriate) and the Case Officer(s) to ensure alignment of the safety case with the engineering work scope.
Ensure all work is undertaken with compliance and observation of company procedures, Licensee requirements and statutory requirements.
Provide engineering oversight to ensure that the design meets the project objectives and is not unnecessarily complex and make use of Technical Oversight Groups where appropriate
Work closely with the Project Manager (INV/PTP/PD/007) to support a common project plan and cost schedule.
Ensure that all necessary design documentation is developed and produced – monitoring and reporting on design deliverables throughout the work.
Attend accountability meetings to support project reporting and ensure effective communications within the design team and with all other key stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: A relevant HNC (or equivalent) in one of the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) as a minimum requirement.
Desirable: Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline, along with Chartered Engineer Status or equivalent.
