A new opportunity has arisen at the nationally award-winning and consistently high-performing Halton Registration Service. We are looking to recruit a new Senior Registration Officer, following the forthcoming retirement of the existing post holder in March 2024.

Based at Runcorn Town Hall, and other locations throughout the borough as required, you will be responsible for undertaking the full range of duties in connection with the registration of births, deaths, and marriages, along with the attesting Notices of marriage and civil partnerships across the Borough.

You will have prior experience of working in Registration Services, with demonstrable experience on issues relevant to the post. You will provide complex and comprehensive advice to service colleagues and customers, promoting informed customer choice, with due regard to the Council’s Customer Care and Equal Opportunities policies.

You will provide managerial support to the Registration Service Manager, Superintendent Registrar and other officers, deputising in their absence and will act as the Statutory Officer for Births, Death and Marriages as required, taking responsibility for a specified portfolio of Registration Service work. (Portfolios are subject to change and adaptation to meet changing Service requirements).

What are we looking for?

Prior experience in Civil Registration and the Registration Service, with demonstrable experience on issues relevant to the post.

  • Three GCSEs (Grade C or above) and/or an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent standard.
  • Hold or be working towards the Registrar General’s National Qualification or prepared to enrol and study for the qualification.
  • Ability to travel across the Borough for work purposes, sometimes at short notice and outside of normal working hours.
  • Willing to work unsociable hours, an average of three Saturdays and one Sunday per month and occasional Bank Holidays and some evening work.
