Job Description

The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN) is looking to hire a Senior Virtual Reality Software Developer. We are looking for a highly specialist senior computer programmer with extensive experience in the development of virtual reality (VR) experiences. The post-holder will be working on an exciting new research project developing a VR treatment that enhances engagement with exercise-based rehabilitation therapies, primarily in patients with lung and heart conditions. The post-holder will take part in all steps of the software development cycle including the user-centred design process with patients, carers, and VR specialists. The post-holder will supervise and contribute to the testing, deployment, and maintenance of the software. The post-holder will be expected to supervise junior development input into the programming. There will be an iterative user testing of prototypes with a later clinical evaluation. The post-holder must be confident following software development guidelines; and contribute to the management and versioning of the source code. Candidates are required to have a strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, game engines (Unity), software design patterns, event systems, frame rate optimisation, application profiling, natural h-c interaction techniques, and quality testing techniques. Ideally the candidate will also have experience of developing experiences within a VR environment. The successful applicant will join the Breathe Oxford team, led by Prof Kyle Pattinson. The post-holder will be working under the supervision of Kyle Pattinson and Stephen Taylor.

 

The successful candidates will hold MSc (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, or closely related university degree. They will have strong experience in the development of VR applications with game engines (Unity) and strong knowledge in object-oriented programming, as well as experience in the usage of project management software, in deployment to multiple platforms, and in VR hardware setup. Work experience in academic research, and knowledge of GDPR is desirable.
