We are currently looking to recruit three Social Workers within the Specialist Community Disability Service – a service which provides a whole life pathway disability service.

Brighton & Hove has an innovative service for children and adults with learning disabilities based on a strong, sustainable and ambitious whole life pathway disability service. This new service is called the Specialist Community Disability Service (SCDS).

We have two pods which support children and young adults from the ages of 0-13 and 14-24 respectively. These pods are part of our Families, Children and Learning Directorate and our model of relationship-based social work, the Team Around the Relationship. We have an opportunity for two Social Worker within the 14-24 pod. We are seeking a candidate with experience primarily in adult’s social work. This role will also have an opportunity to work with those children and young people who are transitioning from children to adult services.

We also have an opportunity for a Social Worker within the 0 – 13 Pod. We are seeking a candidate who is an experienced social worker within Children’s Services.

About the role

We are a team which provides a challenging and exciting range of social work services to children, young people and adults with disabilities. This includes the areas of duty and intake and undertaking care planning within a multi-disciplinary context through both children and adults legislative frameworks. The successful candidate would have a broad understanding of these issues and co-ordinate proportionate and timely assessments to meet identified outcomes for young people and adults with a learning disability at the first point of contact.

Our pod model is based on providing emotional containment for you. This includes a supervision model of weekly group supervision, 1:1 supervision, and Reflective Practice Groups for practitioners and managers at every level, as well as a clear CPD pathway. We have a low workload approach where, like most of our social workers, we aim to make sure that you work with less than 18 children (around 8 families).

We have set up an anti-racist project as we recognised that we need to do further work to support Black and global majority families in the city and to support our staff from Black and global majority communities.

For these posts, you must hold a Professional Social Work Qualification and be registered as a social worker with Social Work England.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Working arrangements are subject to Government guidance at the time. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
