We have an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and dynamic people to join our Specialist Services team within the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS). Specialist Services Coordinators play a pivotal role within the Scottish Ambulance Service, and the wider NHS. We are the single point of contact for clinicians and multidisciplinary teams across the NHS requiring access to complex and critical patient transfers and decision making. The Specialist Services Desk is based within the Ambulance Service Glasgow control room in Glasgow and are responsible for robust decision making and logistical planning to facilitate the safe and efficient transfer of patients using multi-million-pound Scottish Ambulance Service specialist assets. These assets include Air Ambulance, ScotSTAR retrieval teams, and Pre-Hospital Critical Care response. We provide a crucial coordination role within the Scottish Trauma network, to improve and optimise the health and wellbeing of the seriously injured whether that be sending a Critical Care team to the scene of the accident or one of our specialist retrieval teams to a Rural Healthcare site for escorted critical care transfer.
The specialist Services Desk is a nationally focussed department within the Ambulance Control room, comprised of a multidisciplinary team. The team is led operationally by the Specialist Services Supervisor, and you will form part of a team of four coordinators working alongside a critical care practitioner and an Air Service Coordinator from our air service providers, GAMA Aviation.

The specialist services desk operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. As a co-ordinator you will be expected to work 12-hour shifts including weekends, bank holidays and festive periods. This position will be offered on a relief rostering basis where you will be given your shifts 4 weeks in advance covering substantive staff abstractions. During periods of short notice absences within the wider team, you may be asked to move at short notice in adherence with the Rostering Business Rules procedure. Relief staff automatically move into a rostered line with a permanent team when a space becomes available.
For us to recruit the ideal candidate for our team, we will ask shortlisted candidates to participate in an online typing test and if successful attend a recruitment scenario day.
