Background

Led by the Head of Department, Student Health & Wellbeing comprises four services:

  • Student Health and Wellbeing Engagement Service
  • Student Disability & Neurodiversity Service
  • Student Mental Health Service
  • Student Counselling Service

Together, the teams offer specialist advice, mentoring and support to students during their time at the university. The service also provides consultation and guidance to academic staff and the wider university community regarding disability, neurodiversity, mental health and wellbeing and on reasonable adjustments.

Responsibilities

The post holder will have a student-centred approach, offering a pro-active, empathetic response to the diverse needs of City’s students. The complex nature of the role requires you to have an understanding of the management of vulnerable students and the additional support available to them.

You will contribute to student engagement activities, helping to raise awareness of the department and promote student wellbeing. You will manage multiple tasks simultaneously, using initiative, judgment and your excellent communication skills to support the management of students with complex needs. You will ensure that effective administrative and operational procedures are in place in order to support the growing work of the department.

Person Specification

You will possess a good understanding of the challenges faced by students in Higher Education, and an awareness of relevant legislation. You will have experience of providing excellent customer service, preferably in a similar role, as well as experience of working in an international, culturally diverse community. You will possess excellent communication skills and the ability to handle situations calmly, with empathy and discretion. Exceptional record keeping skills and attention to detail are required, along with the ability to manage a busy and varied workload.
