January 24, 2024

Job Description

The role

We are recruiting for a Student Inclusion Officer (Sanctuary) to join our dynamic and ambitious team. If you are passionate about improving the experience of Sanctuary Scholars and students affected by forced displacement, then this role could be the ideal next step in your career.

Using your knowledge of the student journey, and understanding of issues relating to forced displacement, refugees and asylum seekers, you will work to increase students’ sense of belonging, help them feel part of an inclusive university community, and deliver first line pastoral support to help them thrive at the University.

What will you be doing?

The University of Bristol is proud to be a University of Sanctuary and this role will play a key part in shaping what that means for our students and working on our reaccreditation.

You will develop a framework of support for Sanctuary Scholars and students affected by forced displacement, liaising with services across the University and external partners, to ensure the support is integrated and inclusive. You will work to understand what barriers Sanctuary Scholars can experience in accessing university services, and work with colleagues to provide solutions.

You will provide 1:1 guidance to help Sanctuary Scholars work through any challenges they may have, and be the main point of contact at the University advising staff in relation to supporting students from asylum seeker and refugee backgrounds.

You should apply if

You’re passionate about inclusion; caring, and have a good understanding of issues relating to forced displacement, refugees and asylum seekers. You’ll have proven planning and organisation skills, and the ability to problem-solve. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and experience of coaching or mentoring. You will have the ability to build relationships and trust with students, close colleagues in our Division and across the wider University. Working independently, your excellent planning skills will enable you to navigate a large, complex institution and work under pressure to meet varying deadlines.
