Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, canteen, vending machines and showers.
Based at our Luton Manufacturing site as Supplier Quality Engineer you’ll report to the Head of Supply Chain and Procurement with a dotted line into the Site Supplier Quality Manager. In this stand-alone position you will be responsible to engineer and communicate the product/customer and system requirements to the Supplier and participate and orchestra the plan for qualification (FAI and PPAP) from the supplier to reach a conforming product on time. This will include regular monitoring and audit of the quality performance of suppliers, to perform reviews and take actions depending on the cause of any problem (such as assessments, problem solving activities etc) to secure continuous compliance. Manage the supplier quality performance issues, serve as the liaison for suppliers, suggest structural quality and process improvements, and collaborate with other engineers in a team environment.
There is the requirement for International travel once a month with this role within Europe, China and USA with weekly National travel to visit suppliers. This is a full-time position and core operational hours at our Luton site are: 07:30 – 16:30 Monday to Thursday & 07:30 – 12:30 Friday.
Job Responsibilities
- Review Supplier First Article
- Have frequent contact with supplier to monitor actions within Quality
- Analyse suppliers’ quality performance and identify improvement areas.
- Handle supplier non-conformance including cause and corrective action, in order to be up-to date with the supplier performance
- Handle escape including root cause investigation, containment and corrective actions, Participate in 8D investigations
- Create supplier audit plan and ensure adherence
- Participate in supplier work transfer evaluation
- Support concurrent engineering between GKN and supplier (design for manufacturing)
- Support in supplier feedback
How You’ll Contribute

Essential:
- Experience of Supplier Quality Engineering within a manufacturing environment
- Experience of Audit (internal and/or external)
- Knowledgeable in aerospace quality requirements (AS9100)
- Experience in root cause analysis, 8D and continuous improvement
- Competency with Microsoft office and ERP systems
Desirable:
- Experience in New product Introduction and interaction between Purchasing and Engineering in Product Development
- Understanding of the Aerospace industry and associated regulatory requirements and standards

The position requires UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC) due to the nature and responsibilities of the work carried out. In order for us to obtain an SC you usually need to have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years to current date (but we do assess each case individually).
