Sustainable Labs Project Officer at University of Bath
Job Description
Join our grant-funded project to take a lead on driving and embedding a culture of sustainability in laboratories!
About the role:
You will join LEAF, a project focused on increasing sustainability in labs and supporting and empowering lab users in taking action. You’ll take responsibility for all aspects of administrative support for the project, ensuring that it runs in an efficient and effective manner, and adapt to changing circumstances.
You will work to promote and engage staff and students with all aspects of laboratory sustainability. You will encourage sustainable behaviours and practices through the implementation of the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF). Work will include developing resources and guidance, along with supporting communications activities, undertaking lab audits, LEAF administration and attending network meetings.
This position is part of a short project funded by the Enhancing Research Culture, but forms part of wider University efforts to embed sustainability in labs.
This position is offered part time at 0.6 FTE (21.9 hours per week), fixed term until 31st July 2024. We are open to flexible working arrangements and appointing on a job share basis.
For an informal discussion about this role, please contact either Alice Lowe, Climate Action Engagement & Training Manager, at ael52@bath.ac.uk or Peter Phelps, Climate Action Project Lead, at pp228@bath.ac.uk. Please ensure you submit your application through our website.
About you:
You will need to be able to build strong working relationships with lab users across the university. As the role may involve working with a diverse stakeholder group, you will need to have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, being able to communicate across different cultures.
Ideally, you will have experience working in laboratories with an awareness of the various sustainability challenges labs face. At Bath, we have a range of lab types so you should be confident to apply your knowledge in a range of different scenarios.
With a keen interest in sustainability (and ideally experience in this area), you will contribute to the growth of the LEAF programme at Bath and will be able to identify areas for improvement and propose solutions.
This role would be ideally suited to a postgraduate student, researcher or a member of technical services staff.
About us:
Through the Climate Action Framework (CAF), the University has made comprehensive commitments responding to the climate emergency including embedding sustainability into research. LEAF tackles lab sustainability, and this grant-funded project will facilitate and accelerate changes to further embed sustainability and empower colleagues to collaboratively drive change.
