Job Description

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a well-established teaching and learning programme in Bristol Medical School, that is improving the teaching skills and educational leadership of health professionals and to help facilitate a professional, research-based approach to education in the NHS and HE.  We offer a part-time campus-based programme and a Distance Learning programme of which you will be teaching on both. You will teach, assess, evaluate, and develop units and workshops, along with the existing teachers, the Programme Director, and several visiting lecturers.  You will be involved in the day-to-day teaching design and delivery of units to a range of healthcare professionals and includes the evaluation of teaching and other activities or developments as they arise.

What will you be doing?

Teaching and assessment of units on the PG Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, and the MSc Online.  You will be required to teach on each of the modules on the PG Certificate, MSc Online, and may also teach on PG Diploma modules in which you have expertise.  In common with the other teaching staff, you will take overall responsibility for a proportion of all units running each term and assist in the delivery of other units as required. There will be a marking of assignments workload commensurate with contracted hours.

If already qualified to Master’s Level, you may supervise or assess the dissertations of students at the Masters stage of the TLHP Programme. 

Other duties as appropriate to the smooth running of the Programme and our related activities or on request of the Programme Director(s). 

Whilst you will bring your own expertise to the role, considerable support is available within the team in terms of guidance, training and mentoring to assist you in meeting these requirements. You will be based in the Centre for Health Sciences Education where a range of teaching materials for existing courses, plus excellent secretarial and IT support are available and there is a friendly, collegiate atmosphere.

You should apply if

Proven abilities in using a variety of teaching approaches. A good working knowledge of standard educational methods, issues and/or theory (especially relating to teaching, learning, assessment, evaluation, and design). Information and Communications Technologies – able to produce your own documents and materials, competent to use email, Web, and online information sources routinely. Created learning materials to support your own teaching (e.g., handouts, handbooks, distance learning materials, Web sites). Taught learners from a variety of backgrounds and/or levels of seniority and have some experience in course or workshop design. Responsibility for marking student assessments and providing written or verbal feedback and, where appropriate, learner support to them. Involvement in course evaluation.
