Teaching Associate in International Relations (Fixed Term) at University of Cambridge

Applications are invited for a Teaching Associate in International Relations in the Department of Politics and International Studies. The post is available from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2026. The role holder should have a proven specialist academic interest in International Relations, with a specific engagement with International Organisation, and be qualified to PhD level in this or a related subject area.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

• To plan and deliver supervisions in the Department. It is expected that the successful candidate will hold 8 hours of supervisions weekly throughout term-time. This will include teaching for the following:
  • A second-year course on International Organisation (POL3). 
  • Either a third-year course on International Security (POL14) or a third-year course on Conflict and Peace (currently suspended).
• To give up to 10 lectures and/or seminars across the year on a topic or topics in which the candidate has an academic interest.
•  To provide academic guidance and advice to undergraduate students and graduate students.
•  To take part in Tripos examining, including the setting and marking of papers, and the marking of undergraduate dissertations.
•  Other duties as required by the Head of the Department commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.

Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills and experience: 

•  Good first degree and qualified, or nearly qualified, to PhD level in specialist area.
•  Evidence of ability to teach the subject effectively at Undergraduate level with an emphasis on International Organisation.
•  Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication abilities
•  Ability to play an effective role in the life and work of the Department.
•  Ability to work as part of a team.
