Job Description

The role

To provide essential core facilities support: working to ensure the care and maintenance of both conventional and genetically modified research animals; support the day to day running of the ASU animal facilities; contribute to the smooth and effective running of the service in compliance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), the Home Office Code of Practice for the Housing and Care of Animals Bred, Supplied or Used for Scientific Purposes (CoP), relevant Health and Safety and other legislative or policy requirements.  Provide training and guidance in basic techniques and essential core functions and promote a culture of care.

What will you be doing?

Supporting the ASU Facilities by providing essential day-to-day operational support across all the units including large and small animals’ species.

You should apply if

Relevant qualification at GCSE, or NVQ level 2/3, or equivalent level, or IAT level 2.

Proven experience of working in a similar environment, or equivalent practical skills learned in an alternative environment demonstrating skill and ability in the handling of a range of species.

Good IT Skills, ability to prioritise a range of ongoing tasks and cope under pressure.

Participate on Weekend/Bank holiday rota.

Additional information

Shift pattern: 35 hours per week (normally over 5 days) plus participation in weekend and closure day rota
