Technician (Filmmaking & Creative Technologies) at The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts

Job Description

Fixed Term – 12 months

Full-time – 37.5 hours per week

We are looking to recruit a Filmmaking Technician for our Technical Services Team to support the equipment specifically used on our Filmmaking & Creative Technologies and Acting (Screen & Digital) courses.  The postholder will be responsible for coordinating the administration and operational oversight for film production both on and off campus and will assist the Technical Services Manager in supporting curriculum delivery across the Institute. They will also be responsible for the supervision, maintenance and booking of Filmmaking & Creative Technologies equipment, Acting (Screen & Digital) equipment and Technical Services streaming equipment and setup along with providing a customer facing role for bookings and events.

The duties for this post include:

  • To ensure adequate arrangements exist for the storage, distribution and maintenance of Filmmaking & Creative Technologies and Acting (Screen & Digital) equipment.
  • To provide first-line technical support ensure the smooth processing of equipment booking requests generated from Smarthub, the Institute’s booking system.
  • To maintain a safe and secure environment with respect to Filmmaking & Creative Technologies equipment, Acting (Screen & Digital) and live streaming.
  • To support students and staff in achieving their learning goals and enhance departmental communication.
  • To provide support for major LIPA events (open days / guest speakers etc.).
  • To assist with budget preparations and the ordering of equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject. A thorough working knowledge of digital video equipment, including digital cameras and live digital video mixing systems and in booking equipment is essential. Experience of configuring and deploying digital audio and video networks would be advantageous. In addition, you should have excellent oral and written communication skills and an organised and methodical approach to your work.
