Job title: Ticketing Executive
Company: Byway
Job description: Company Description
We help holidaymakers love their journeys
We’re the first tech platform for flight-free holidays, and we’re on a mission to make slow travel mainstream. We help people experience the joy of journeying through lesser-known parts of the UK and Europe by train, boat and bus, and are proud to be a certified B Corporation. Founded in March 2020, we’ve raised £2.3M in government grant funding and from angel investors and regularly appear in mainstream press from the Times to the Guardian. We’ve sold over 1,000 trips, are growing 7x year on year, and have 97% five star reviews.
Job Description
We’re looking for a Ticketing Executive to take ownership of non-urgent ticketing for Byway itineraries, identifying the best ticket choices for our customers’ journeys by train, boat and bus. As our Ticketing Exec, you’ll choose tickets – balancing customer enjoyment, cost and flexibility – and you’ll know enough about booking horizons and sales/promotions to secure tickets in good time and before they sell out. You’ll manage large ticketing budgets across a pipeline of hundreds of trips with varying departure dates and ticket booking horizons.
Our ideal candidate will have experience booking complex European journeys overland (and perhaps by ferry), whether in a professional or personal capacity. We’re looking for someone who believes personally in our mission of making flight-free travel a mainstream choice and has experience of routing and ticketing in Europe, using Interrail reservations and/or full fares. We’ll work together to build on your current understanding of tariffs, booking horizons and aftersales conditions to ensure that you feel comfortable booking a wide range of tickets. You’ll love it here if you have a brilliant ability to think outside the box, and are ready to tackle the challenges of flight-free travel head on.
Your role:
- Manage ticketing logistics, including timely booking, amendments, and cancellations, with a keen eye for detail and efficiency
- Keep abreast of the latest trends in overland travel, including new routes, services, and ticketing technology, to continuously improve our offerings
- Collaborate with our routing and ops teams to align ticketing options with our unique travel experiences and devise alternatives for disrupted journeys, ensuring seamless travel for our customers in a cost-effective manner
- Support our tech and product teams in making Byway’s ticketing operations more efficient and giving our customers more autonomy over the journeys they take
- Work with our partnerships team to broker deals and negotiate with supply partners to secure the best deals and ensure availability for our trips
- Identify the most enjoyable and cost-effective ticketing options for train, boat, and bus travel across Europe
Qualifications
What we’re looking for
- Experience planning and booking overland travel, whether in a professional or personal capacity and a willingness to build on your existing expertise to align with Byway practices
- A passion for slow travel with a few favourite routes in one or more Byway regions and a good working knowledge of European rail geography, timetables and ticketing
- Strong operational skills, able to confidently work through a pipeline of tasks and deliver great results to time and budget
- An extraordinary eye for detail with quick thinking, agility and creativity in problem solving
- An ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment, contributing to team goals and sharing insights across teams, including tech and product
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering strong relationships with our team, partners and occasionally, customers
- An ability to make decisions that maximise customer enjoyment while operating within company guidelines
