Why this job matters
Our newly formed Small and Medium Business team will support businesses with between1 to 249 employees. That could be anything from a sole trader through to a small contact centre. We’re already the market leader for small and medium businesses in the UK and we have a big opportunity for Business to be even better for its customers. We’ve got big growth and transformation ambitions for this segment and in this role, you will play a key role in forming this new combined unit and working with the leadership team to continue to drive for growth.
You’ll be a part of an exciting transformation of the channel and routes to market, improving the customer and colleague experience as well as delivering significant returns for BT Business.
The role will champion the revenue streams of the future and trade them accordingly; ability to work and operate as a small business within a business that has the magnitude of BT will be crucial along with an ability to ruthlessly prioritise as the opportunities to go after are vast and wide reaching. Finally, this team will have the responsibility for Trading the decommissioning plans that come out of the Commercial and Props function, making sure we have a clear trading strategy to deliver the numbers, understand the levers available and can flex the plans according to the demands of the wider P&L.
What you’ll be doing
- Using insights, analysis and market expertise, own specific targets within SME trading and creation of customer interventions (marketing, price, sales incentives, etc) as required to ensure we achieve them – providing insight on performance against specific volume and value targets
- Championing our future revenue streams; this includes growing revenues such as VAS, Security, Insurance.
- Be involved in the decommissioning of legacy revenue streams such as PlusNet, BT Mobile – ensuring the requirements of the MTP are considered, balanced with the moving dynamics in the market
- Contribution to the MTP process – consideration of the pricing approach, how we acquire from our competitors and retain our base? How we resign, upsell and grow share of wallet with existing customers? How we ensure that our plan delivers profitable growth (where possible)
- Co-ordinates and evaluates opportunities and assess underlying risk, making recommendations on how to optimise and influence future performance
- Effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders across SMB and BT Business
What we would like to see on your CV
- Relationships: ability to build relationships across cross-functional teams, test and challenge thinking
- Commercial Acumen: Understanding of the levers that drive commercial performance and what we need to dial up and down to maximise returns. Understanding how to derive prices that will allow us to win in the market whilst maximising profit. Able to tell a story with data that demonstrates insight and underpins recommendations
- Influencing & Communication skills: Strong influencing skills in driving commercial initiatives for the sales segment working across the Enterprise functions. Verbal and PowerPoint presentation capabilities that boil complex plans and processes into the key relevant information and/or decision point for stakeholders.
- Be creative: Broadens skills and knowledge base, learns and explores new ideas and influences others towards new ways of thinking
- Customer Acquisition: Understanding of how to acquire customers based on cross sell, upsell and value enrichment
- Customer Retention & Migration: Understanding of how to retain customers and migrate customers to other products, through customer support, engagement programmes and product updates

Flexible working
BT have moved to a hybrid working model – you can work from home 2 days per week. This means you’ll be at your contractual location 3 days a week.
