Trainee ACE Technician – Laboratories & Workshops at University of Bath
Job Description
The Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering is seeking to appoint a self-motivated trainee engineering technician to provide technical support to our various laboratories and workshops.
About the role
Based primarily in the ACE labs and workshops, this is a trainee position as part of a team of multi-skilled technicians, who provide technical support to both teaching and research in the department. Amongst the work the team supports are timetabled undergraduate teaching sessions and a wide range of research activities.
The successful applicant will receive training with a view to supporting departmental activity in a range of disciplines including:
- Various laboratories including Structures, Water, Geotechnics, Concrete and Teaching
- Woodwork workshop
- Mechanical Testing
Support will be provided by the existing technical team with a view to the successful applicant becoming competent in the above disciplines and in turn supporting colleagues and students within the department and beyond. As this is a student-facing role, the post-holder needs to be confident working and communicating with a diverse student population.
About you
To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Apply knowledge of underlying concepts and principles associated with area of work
- Able to review and select appropriate technical methods, procedures and techniques to undertake tasks
- Demonstrate the ability to understand and assess information and make sound decisions in relation to scientific concepts
- Demonstrate a track record of working reliably and efficiently with minimal supervision to appropriate standards and protocols
- Understand and comply with safe working practices
- Able to complete tasks and procedures, exercising judgement where necessary.
- Recognise, organise and use resources appropriately to complete tasks
- Ability to operate within relevant codes of conduct and practice
- A demonstrable commitment to continuous personal professional development activities
Applicants ideally should possess GCSE/O level qualifications or demonstrable equivalent experience of working in a relevant field. Applicants should be willing to undertake training and have a friendly and approachable nature, as the role is primarily student facing.
