Fixed-term- 8 months 

The opportunity:

We are looking for an experienced project manager and rare book specialist to oversee the restoration and remediation of an historic sequence of printed books which suffered water damage in 2019.

The UCF Project Manager and Rare Books Specialist will deliver the collections remediation necessary following on from damage caused by a water ingress at the University Collections Facility (UCF) in 2019. The project team reviews and implements preventive and interventive conservation plans, restores value to the collections by upgrading metadata, and ensures the affected collections are once again available for teaching and research. The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of project management, including operational and contract budgets.

This is a fixed term post for 8 months and is part-time (0.5 FTE, 17.5 hours per week), however, we are open to considering other part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Manage project staff and contractors to deliver key milestones on time and to budget
  • Establish best practices for project progress tracking and documentation
  • Improve the catalogue descriptions and finding aids for books in the affected collections 
  • Plan and execute collections moves within the UCF to rationalise storage of cultural heritage and general collections 
  • Key-holder and site-manager responsibilities for the University Collections Facility 
  • Manage project operational and contractor budgets 
  • Assist in recruitment and documentation of project posts
  • Contribute to the wider Heritage Collections community
