Job description: Your team: You will be an integral part of a lean cross-functional innovation team. The team is responsible for early engagement with the business to help shape new ideas / products / technologies and to test feasibility and identify technical scope for proposed initiatives.
The team works from the discovery phase to business case, focusing on business problems and exploring how new technologies can help and elevate an idea or opportunity.
Understanding the problem, conceptualising the solution and following the design thinking process to ensure the user is at the forefront of their minds. Before handing off to existing or new teams to take forward.
Your role: You will provide expertise in selling an idea, getting buy in from stakeholders and bringing to life the conceptual thinking of the team via prototyping, animations, video and visual design skills.
As a UI Designer, you will report to the Head of UXD and work in a lean cross functional team playing a pivotal role in shaping new technologies within News UK; cementing the ‘why?’, recommending the ‘how?’ and visualising the ‘What?’ to inspire stakeholders and teams within the business.
You’ll have a passion for design, UX & technology. You’ll be hands-on and willing to work in a fast paced, ever-moving environment, think big, push boundaries and embrace failure.
You’ll keep up-to-date with the latest trends, developments in technology and be acutely aware of new practices in design and innovation.
Day to day you will:
Bring ideas and concepts to life for stakeholders and users via visual design, prototyping, animation and video.
Develop deep knowledge of the current News UK brands.
Own and develop the visual identity of the team.
Lead on projects, ensuring we follow the design thinking process to solve complex design problems.
Ability to quickly create new brands for PoCs / presentations to clearly illustrate the teams thinking.
Work in a rapid, efficient manner and enjoy ideation of solutions to ensure core problems are being answered.
Attend, facilitate and play a large part in team ideation sessions, workshops and design sprints.
Stay abreast of innovations in best practices, tools and topics of interest to the design community, share with the team and help infuse them in how we work. Gain a good understanding of new technologies so you are able to design within their full potential.
Visualisation of data and research in the form of infographics.
Assist in user research to stay aligned with user needs.
What we’re looking for from you:
Capable of leading projects involving multiple disciplines
Creative and conceptual thinker able to develop innovative solutions to problems
Strong ideation skills from initial ideas into PoCs
Data literate, analysing frequently to help inform concepts
Strong prototyping skills and experience with full end to end design process
Strong presentation and storytelling skills, articulating ideas clearly to the team and wider stakeholders
Strong understanding of user needs and business needs with great relationship building and stakeholder management skills
This role is hybrid with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
