Company: Salford Community Leisure

Job description: Unlocking the Collections: Project Coordinator

Grade: Grade 3, £9,399 to £9,880 per annum

Hours: 14.4 hours over two days per week

Contract Type: Fixed term for six months

Location: Salford Museum and Art Gallery and Ordsall Hall

Closing Date: 12th January 2024, 5pm

Interview Date: 25th January 2024

Salford Community Leisure (SCL) is committed to Building a Great Place to Work; with over 500 employees servicing more than 3 million customer visits at 40 venues across the city each year. We exist to ‘enhance the lives of people living in Salford through providing sport, leisure and cultural opportunities’.

We pride ourselves on recruiting the right people with the right values into the right roles. We are looking for professional, respectful, knowledgeable, passionate and solution driven people to join our team as we strive to deliver excellence to our customers.

Salford Museums and Art Galleries are excited to be embarking on an Arts Council England-funded project, Unlocking the Collections, which will pilot digital technology to provide a layer of interpretation for two traditionally underserved communities, that of the deaf/Deaf BSL using community and those who are blind/living with sight loss.

We have a six-month, part-time role available for a project-coordinator. Half the project will be working with blind/visually impaired communities and half will be working with deaf/Deaf communities. We welcome applications from those with lived experience, but we appreciate that these two groups have different communication needs. Depending on the balance of applications received, we could split the position into two three-month roles, so that successful applicants could work with the community group that aligns to their experience. We have funding built in to support access for the focus group sessions, but not for the project coordinator role, however we would support the successful applicant with an Access to Work request for communication support, if needed.

The post sits within Salford Museums & Galleries’ Learning and Engagement Team.

This role will be based across both our sites:

  • Salford Museum & Art Gallery, a Grade 2 listed Victorian museum, with a well-loved 1897 street, Lark Hill Place, as well as permanent and changing exhibition spaces that host a lively events and learning programme
  • Ordsall Hall, Salford’s ‘jewel in the crown,’ a Grade 1 listed Tudor mansion house that is surrounded by 2 acres of gardens. Ordsall Hall operates as an engaging heritage site that is open to the public all year round.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a passion for history and would enjoy helping bring our collections to life for our blind/visually impaired and Deaf visitors
  • Has experience of working with community groups and has excellent communication and people skills
  • Is proactive and solutions-driven
  • Is able to keep accurate records
  • Has strong IT skills
  • Has cash handling experience
  • Consistently demonstrates SCL’s behaviours, with a can-do attitude and positive approach to working as a team.

Any questions about the post please contact

Please note CVs will not be accepted, however we will accept an audio or filmed application if that is preferred.

Please download a Salford Community Leisure application form via the link on this page and use the person specification to demonstrate how your experience and skills meet the requirements of the job.

If you wish to be considered for this role please return your application form to by 5pm on Friday 12th January 2024, ensuring you detail how you meet and demonstrate the skills, experience, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the person specification.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 25th January 2024
